Which religion should write the official school prayer for USA public schools?
There is a movement in many communities to have prayer in school. Everybody praying together instead of just their private prayers which of course they can do at any time. Someone will have to come up with the prayer. If it passes anywhere, and I hope it never does, then my choice is Wicca

that doesnt make any sense. why would there be prayers in public schools, ESP a prayer of ONE relig. when many public schools have lots of kids w/ diff or no religs. what about the ppl who dont believe in praying?
2 :
Tenrikyo.
3 :
prayer's a waste of time....coz there's no god anyway. oh u knew that ? okay.
4 :
Religion has no place in education or politics.
5 :
Muslim - they need to be in forefront on some things.
6 :
I think instead of an "official school prayer", there should be a moment of silence to pray or reflect, as each individual chooses...
7 :
Islam, Insh'Allah.
8 :
I don't care who comes up with the prayer as long as it includes salmon croquettes and tater tots I'm happy.
9 :
The "religion" of thinking for oneself.
10 :
None. because of the whole separation between church and state thing, I believe it was written in the single most important document in the entire history of the united states. Maybe you've heard of it its called the constitution. No this is a terrible idea and if liberty and justice have anything to do with it it will not pass.
11 :
hare Krishnas don't get much attention any more so I think they should do it. Just another topic to get people fighting over so they won't see the reps at the top doing what they do.
12 :
None it shouldn't exist. Violation of Church and state separation few people want this in reality quit representing your minority opinion as popular. Your using the usual republican technique. Edit Satan- Satanism would be my first choice too if this idea would be so popular lets see how the fundys like that.
13 :
How about a prayer service at work too? You don't want to stop at just children. Although children are the easiest to indoctrinate and control. Pesky adults ask pesky questions with their pesky logic. It would take a Christian fundamentalist government to reinstate cooperative prayer in schools. That said it would be a very general Christian prayer. Who will come up with it? The Reverend Al Sharpton. It will be a great show of racial inclusion and the Christians will be praised! I'm beginning to think that Creationism in school should be taught alongside evolution but only in mockery of it when compared to scientific data contradicting the bogus theory of clay-man and rib-woman.
14 :
Why Satanism of course! We don't pray though, so it will just be ritual... Of course, the classes with good looking female teachers could use them as alters.. (A nude woman is often used in place of an alter in Satanism) So, how do you think that will fly?
15 :
As freedom of religion is enshrined in the 1st amendment to the constitution, it wouldn't be possible to write one that wouldn't involve at least some children being forced to pray to a god they don't believe in. It's a ridiculous idea and violates the constitution. Schools are for education. If people want their children to be able to join in public prayer they can do that in church, temple, synagogue, mosque or wherever.
16 :
Prayer is a one on one conversation. Why would you want someone else to write your innermost that you discuss with your Creator. Jesus gave us some good admonition when he gave us the model to go by known as the Lord's Prayer. Notice the verses just before that prayer. (Matthew 6:5-8) . . .. 6 You, however, when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you. 7 But when praying, do not say the same things over and over again, just as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words. 8 So, do not make yourselves like them, for God YOUR Father knows what things YOU are needing before ever YOU ask him.
17 :
Since public schools are run by the Government and there is suppose to be a separation of Church and state (see constitution/bill of rights) than it probably would never happen. Thanks for the vote for Wicca, but I think it should be the choice of the student and allowed that the student has the right to pray or not.

here's the deal after many arguments im finally allowed to go on an exchange program with school to USA but
here's the deal after many arguments im finally allowed to go on an exchange program with school to USA but...?
ok. so here's the deal after many arguments im finally allowed to go on an exchange program with school to the USA in 2011. the catch is that my dad is like you have to put as much money as you can towards it and thats fair cause its going to work out to $8000 with everything included. and then he was like oh by the way you have to give up acting - the only thing i do, which is really hard cause acting is what i love. so i was like well if i can get a job by the time i have to quit acting then can keep doing it, fair enough? cause i can pay for it myself but he was like no cause then all that money will go to the trip. but the point is that he's not saying you have to put $5000 towards the trip or a rough figure. he's saying in other words if i can get $3000 then thats fine but i have to give up acting, so the $1000 that would be from now till then from acting can go towards the trip. but if i get a job and get the same $3000 plus enough for acting and probably a bit more then i still cant do it, if that makes sense. i dont think thats very fair cause acting means the world to me its the only thing out of school i do. what do you think?? any help?? thanks oh and im only 15 so that amount of money is alot yeah its long sorry

Maybe he's making you give up acting so you can concentrate all your energy on getting money for this trip and keeping your grades up. Also if he's paying for you to act, that's more money he can put towards your trip. 8000 is a LOT of money and any money he can save will help out a lot. You're not the only one that will have to give up something you like so you can have this trip.
2 :
Honestly, I don't think it's fair of your father to ask you to give up your passion. I understand that possibly your acting is costing a lot of money but then he should give you a chance to help and pay for it yourself. I think you should try that. Work really hard, save all the money you can until 2011, who knows maybe you'll come up with 5000 and that will be enough for him to consider you've worked enough for it. If I were you though and I had a choice like that, I'd forget about the US and keep up acting. There are other countries you can travel to for much much much cheaper. Didn't check but if you're in Europe, my thought is : Ryan air, go to Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Finland, wherever you want. Should cost you what? 100 to 200 euro return flights depending where you go and when (I'm going to Belgium in a couple weeks, flying from Ireland with my husband. 100 euro return for both of us)?

How is school of medicine organized in USA?

In my understanding, you do an undergraduate 4-year baccalaureate degree, usually in the sciences, sometimes called pre-med. You talk the MCAT test. Your college grade point, your fulfillment of required classes, and your MCAT score determine your acceptance by a med school. Medical school is three years. Then you start a residency. During your first year of residency, you are called an itern. In your second year, you start into your specialization. You might become a fellow after your three years if you stay on for more training.

American medical schools require four years of training. The first two years are mainly classes and the last two years are mainly individual and small group instruction with patients. You must take a difficult test to pass from the class stage to the patient stage - it checks to see that you have learned all the material very well. After the patient stage when you have received your Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree then you have another test before you can become an independent physician. After receiving your MD you start a series of post graduate training posts which vary according to which specialty you are following, For the most difficult specialties (for example, cardiac surgery) the training might continue for up to ten years. To gain entrance to a med school you must complete a series of tough undergraduate courses and probably receive a BS or BA degree. You must have an excellent grade average and an excellent score on a tough exam called the MCAT which most pre-med students take after their third year of college. For reliable information about med schools in the USA, check the website of the AAMC - the organization which coordinates US med schools.

There is no best school. Diplomats come from an extremely wide variety of backgrounds, specialties, prior employment, college majors, areas of the US, and life experience. The important thing is not to study diplomacy - you can't really do that, anyway - but to study what you love and be extremely aware of the world around you in all of its complexities. Oh, and pass the Foreign Service exam.
4 :
Close, but the best for what you want is American University in Wash. DC. Almost all of them are poli-sci majors and intern in a federal position. Good contacts for that kind of stuff, related work experience.

dognhorsemom is, as always, correct. No point in going to Georgetown School of Foreign Service, unless you have a reason other than prospective career to go there: few of its grads actually go to work for the State Dept. Harvard Law School is good: a recent ambassador to Malaysia went there. But whatever education broadens your mind and gives you insight into history, geography and international affairs is good. Languages are important, but in fact under the law and regulations you only need to learn one beyond English. It's just that among the ranks of the most successful FSOs are those who learned hard languages well. So: if you want to study in NY that leaves Columbia and NYU. If Middle Eastern affairs interest you, try to study under Noah Feldman (NYU Law School, but you could equally work with him if you studied in their grad school).
6 :
Yale where skull and bones is located.

I work for the foreign ministry of a Western country, doing foreign policy. You would not know it if you looked at my resume (ex-soldier, ex- newspaper sub-editor, ex-ESL teacher, ex-computer programmer, ex-customer service delivery analyst). Doghorsemom is right. You need to have a love of learning about the world, ideally tied with an economics or law degree (though I have neither). It attracts eccentrics and ordinary guys, radicals and blue-bloods, hawks and doves. It is not a job for prima donnas - you could be expected to do put in long hours and perform tedious chores that are found in any workplace. Much of the work is about sharing information and building consesuses - teamwork and communication skills count. Above all, have excellent writing skills. You will be paid a public servant's salary too. The odds are getting in are small. Try developing a career somewhere else, and then try to move in.

Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy. It's just outside of Boston. http://fletcher.tufts.edu/
