here's the deal after many arguments im finally allowed to go on an exchange program with school to USA but...?
ok. so here's the deal after many arguments im finally allowed to go on an exchange program with school to the USA in 2011. the catch is that my dad is like you have to put as much money as you can towards it and thats fair cause its going to work out to $8000 with everything included. and then he was like oh by the way you have to give up acting - the only thing i do, which is really hard cause acting is what i love. so i was like well if i can get a job by the time i have to quit acting then can keep doing it, fair enough? cause i can pay for it myself but he was like no cause then all that money will go to the trip. but the point is that he's not saying you have to put $5000 towards the trip or a rough figure. he's saying in other words if i can get $3000 then thats fine but i have to give up acting, so the $1000 that would be from now till then from acting can go towards the trip. but if i get a job and get the same $3000 plus enough for acting and probably a bit more then i still cant do it, if that makes sense. i dont think thats very fair cause acting means the world to me its the only thing out of school i do. what do you think?? any help?? thanks oh and im only 15 so that amount of money is alot yeah its long sorry

Maybe he's making you give up acting so you can concentrate all your energy on getting money for this trip and keeping your grades up. Also if he's paying for you to act, that's more money he can put towards your trip. 8000 is a LOT of money and any money he can save will help out a lot. You're not the only one that will have to give up something you like so you can have this trip.

Honestly, I don't think it's fair of your father to ask you to give up your passion. I understand that possibly your acting is costing a lot of money but then he should give you a chance to help and pay for it yourself. I think you should try that. Work really hard, save all the money you can until 2011, who knows maybe you'll come up with 5000 and that will be enough for him to consider you've worked enough for it. If I were you though and I had a choice like that, I'd forget about the US and keep up acting. There are other countries you can travel to for much much much cheaper. Didn't check but if you're in Europe, my thought is : Ryan air, go to Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Finland, wherever you want. Should cost you what? 100 to 200 euro return flights depending where you go and when (I'm going to Belgium in a couple weeks, flying from Ireland with my husband. 100 euro return for both of us)?
