If you are indeed a US citizen they really, all you need to do is to stay with a US relative and go to high school in their community.

yeah, you can go to a private school, or claim permanent residence at wherever you would live and go to that public school. But you would be transferring halfway through your high school career, which may be difficult because of how different the UK's school system is from the US's. You shouldn't have any trouble signing up for school though, since you are a citizen.
