Path to getting to medical school in USA

Path to getting to medical school in USA?
Let's say I want to become a pediatric oncologist in the USA. I did my IGCSE, and will soon do IB(International Baccalaureate). I heard IB is very prestigue, and i will get everywhere where i want thoughout the world if i get good results. Does it mean I don't have to do SATs when i have IB? Also, I dont really understand going to college before medical school. If i done IB, and i am well prepared, whats the point. Do i have to? Can't i just do the exams that i need to do and go? Also, what's next. Thanks.

Even if you do IB, many schools still require the SAT/ACT (but don't weigh it as heavily as they did in the late 90s). Unlike the UK and places like South Africa and Australia, the US, Canada, Japan and Taiwan etc require you to have a bachelors degree before you can enter medical school. So just because you don't understand why you should go to college is irrelevant because it is mandatory for admissions to medical school in the US. It does not matter what you major in in college so long as you meet all the prerequisites for medical school admissions (ie: necessary math, biology, chemistry courses). You will have to have a bachelors degree and take the MCAT exam. Good luck

Each school in the US has it's own requirements, there is no national standard for which tests can be used for admissions. In the US, Canada, and a few other places, you have to have a bachelor's degree to be admitted into Medical school. Getting your bachelor's degree in the same country that you want to attend medical school will increase your chances for admissions. In other places, Medical School begins with basic coursework in biology, chemistry, etc. In the US, Medical School skips the basics, assuming that you've covered that in your pre-med classes, and begins right with advanced Medical Subject Area work. Unless you've taken college level Biology and Chemistry you are in no way prepared for US Medical School.
